Linosa is a volcanic island, and black is its raw material: not just a color, but a substance: lava, earth, shadow. Sul nero begins there: a color photography project organized by chromatic palette, seven chapters that move through the island the way one moves through a palette.Each chapter carries a title in Sicilian dialect; a language that belongs to the land as much as the black stones that make it up. The images don't narrate Linosa, they render it in fragments of color: what remains when you strip away the narrative and let the surface speak.A work built on subtraction, not description. Black precedes everything.
It is the rock, it is the origin, it is that against which every color must earn its right to exist.
The pink that holds its ground against the lava.
The turquoise that answers the sea.
The yellow that burns without burning.
The gray that suspends time between fire and form. The red that occupies space without asking permission.
The white that remains when everything else has already happened.
Colors that do not decorate but resist: the fierce light, the salt, the silent hostility of the volcanic landscape.
